Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath left for New Delhi on Saturday evening amid speculation over the appointment of a new BJP national president and state party chief.

According to sources, CM Yogi is expected to meet BJP national president JP Nadda and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The visit has triggered political buzz in Uttar Pradesh in light of the pending appointments of national and state party chiefs.

Notably, Deputy Chief Ministers of Uttar Pradesh, Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, recently met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi. Photographs of that meeting were shared on social media, fuelling speculation about possible political changes both in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

With CM Yogi in Delhi now, fresh speculation is circulating in political circles about possible changes in the BJP’s state leadership.

A former state BJP president remarked, “The Chief Minister’s visit to Delhi is significant in terms of potential leadership changes. Several names are under consideration for the post of the new UP BJP chief, and this visit could be part of the decision-making process.”

Senior party leaders indicate that names under consideration include Keshav Prasad Maurya, Rekha Verma, BL Verma, Shrikant Sharma, and Dr. Dinesh Sharma. The BJP is reportedly evaluating its strategy based on Brahmin and OBC factors, though the possibility of a surprise candidate cannot be ruled out.

Another former state BJP chief added, “Since the Chief Minister belongs to an upper caste, it is likely that the new party chief will be from an OBC background. There is also internal discussion about appointing a woman leader to the post.”

Sources within the BJP say the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is keen on selecting a state president who can effectively coordinate with both the government and the party machinery in the run-up to the upcoming elections. The RSS is reportedly seeking Yogi Adityanath’s approval before finalising the appointment to avoid any disconnect between the organisation and the administration.

The new state president will play a key role in the upcoming panchayat elections and later in preparing for the 2027 Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.
